Toy Day 2

Role

Game Designer/ Technical Artist

description

This is a game made for the "Mini Jame Gam" in which I worked as a game designer and 3D/2D artist. I created a tool using the blender software to convert 3D scenes into 2D pixel art animations, which required minor cleanup to be usable. The them of the jam was "thief" and also there was a special object to add to the game and it was "toy", so we made a parody game of the famous "pay day 2" in wich the player is a youngster stealing a cool train in a toy shop.

We intended to use pixel art in this game, but all we had was two 3D artists, and I was the only one with experience in this type of art.

I started researching how to solve this process after coming up with the concept that "pixel art is basically low resolution." Thomas Vasseur (Motion Twin) wrote a very insightful article I've found about how he resolved a related issue for the video game "dead cells".

I therefore created a similar Blender tool that enabled us to design, rig, and animate both the main and enemy 3D characters. The animation was then rendered as a flipbook and imported into Aseprite for a quick cleanup.
